It all begins with a concept

It is so exciting to be involved in new and creative projects. This is often for wedding venues where they are creating a special event for their couples, such as tasting events. A delight to be a part of as I get to collaborate with all the other suppliers to bring a concept to life. I get to be innovative and experiment with new ways of creating floral designs.

It all begins with a concept. Loose ideas and thoughts about what to create visually. I then shape these ideas into something more cohesive - clear images appear of what we could do to create something spectacular. To achieve the most perfect finish we do need to dive into the finer details of the concept though. To get the colour palette and ingredients list just right isn’t always enough. We are talking details such as linen, cutlery, glassware, stationary, how the napkins are placed and whether we can soften a table setting by adding a delicate fabric to the linen. In other words, the finish of a table setting is all in the detail. This process is not dissimilar to how I work with my couples when planning their wedding flowers.

Farbridge wedding venue has the most incredible beams, high up, and the space really lends itself to larger flower installations. For this event and the concept I had been given, I thought it would be perfect to suspend flower clouds above the banquet setting, creating a dreamy look in the venue. It seemed to tick all the right boxes so I decided to go for it. It was an ambitious idea with the main objective being to create an effortless and light look not to mention the visual impact when you walked in to Farbridge.

When working with a banquet setting, I often have limited space to work with, which is why the suspended flowers played such a big part of this concept. The flower clouds above the tables meant we could scale down the flowers for the tables but not compromise on the visual impact. I used delicate glass bud vases, featuring seasonal spring flowers down the centre of the table, which created an elegant and light feel to the setting as well as tying in with the flowers above head. This was combined with an elegant table runner and beautiful crockery and glassware. And of course, we mustn’t forget the candles - an essential requirement for any finish, for that all important ambience. Can you imagine yourselves enjoying your wedding breakfast under a scented cloud of flowers and foliage?

These images was taken by the amazing Helen Cawte from www.helencawte.com and her imagery captured the concept in the most beautiful way. Just like spring; light, airy and full of promise.
